The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center (LASCC) will host its first of two-weekend adoption events this Saturday, July 6 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at its location at 613 W. Pont Des Mouton Rd.

First Chance Saturday is open to the public for anyone interested in adopting dogs, puppies, cats or kittens.

Second Chance Saturday will be held the following Saturday on July 13 at the same time and location.

Every adoptable animal from the shelter is neutered or spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped.

Adoption fees for dogs and puppies are $35 and $25 for cats and kittens. Adoption fees are waived altogether for military veterans with IDs and senior citizens over 65 years of age.

Held on the first and second Saturday of each month, weekend adoption events work around people’s busy schedules and allow both the adopted animal and their new owner time to become acquainted before resuming the regular week on Monday.

“Because of our no-kill initiative, more pets are being surrendered by their owners with the confidence that their pet won’t be put down,” says Shelter Director Shelley Delahoussaye, “These surrenders are filling up the shelter and we only have so much space. Although we are working toward building a new and larger shelter, these adoption events help us free up space in our current facility and continue to save lives. We have come a long way, but still have work to do. We are so grateful to our community and volunteers who continue to support our mission!”

Delahoussaye is optimistic that continued awareness on the shelter’s progress, monthly adoption promotions, and events such as First and Second Chance Saturday will help to bring the shelter’s live outcome percentages up to no-kill status.

LASCC services will be limited to adoptions on July 6 and 13 and animals will not be accepted for intake on this day. Regular adoption hours are from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
