BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — An April special election date has been set to fill an open Acadiana-area seat in the Louisiana House.

The vacancy will be created by the resignation of state Rep. Jonathan Perry, a Republican who was elected to the state Senate. Perry moves to his Senate seat March 10.

House Speaker Jim Tucker said Wednesday that the primary election will be held April 30 and the general election, if needed, will be May 28. Qualifying will begin March 16 and end March 18.

The District 47 seat includes Cameron and part of Vermilion parishes.
