The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) has announced an arrest in connection with the suspicious package found at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Albert Romero, 38, of Lafayette, has been charged with one count of terrorizing and is now in custody at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center (LPCC).

The incident began on May 31, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m. when a suspicious package was reported in the parking lot of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, formerly known as Women’s and Children’s Hospital, located at 4600 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Due to the potential threat to public safety, the hospital and its parking lot were locked down, and a crime scene was established.

Multiple agencies, including the Lafayette Fire Department, Louisiana State Police, and Hazmat teams, responded to the scene to ensure safety and investigate the situation. Following standard protocols, the scene was thoroughly examined and secured.
