Cajuns Back at Home to Entertain Georgia Southern
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are hoping being back at the Cajundome will be the cure for what ails them.
The Cajuns, who shot just 12 of 56 from three point range and committed 34 turnovers over their last two games, entertain Georgia Southern (13-9, 5-4 Sun Belt) tonight at the Cajundome. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm and can be heard on ESPN1420 (KPEL) and HOT 107.9 (KHXT_FM).
This will be only the twelfth meeting between the two schools, with Louisiana (13-9, 4-5) holding a 6-4 edge, including a 5-3 mark since the two teams became conference mates.
This will be the second meeting this year between the two schools. Louisiana took an 87-85 win at Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro on January 12. The game promises to be high scoring, as the two teams are the two highest scoring teams in the Sun Belt.
Tookie Brown, who is bidding to be a First Team all conference player for the fourth straight year, leads the Eagles in scoring (16.5) and assists (4.8). Brown is over 2,000 points for his career and sits sixth place all time in Sun Belt history. Guard Quan Jackson (15.7) and forwards Isaiah Crawley (11.3) and Montae Glenn (10.1) also average in double figures for the Eagles.
In the first meeting, Louisiana led 55-38 with 17:34 remaining before Georgia Southern fought back to tie the game at 80 apiece. JaKeenan Gant hit a pair of free throws with 1:14 to play and the Cajuns never trailed again. Gant led the Cajuns with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five assists (a career high) and five blocked shots. Jerekius Davis added 17 points for the Cajuns, while P. J. Hardy and Marcus Stroman scored 12 apiece. Brown and Jackson each had 21 points for the Eagles.
The game is the first of a three game homestand for the Cajuns, who will host Georgia State in a "blackout" game Friday night and then host ULM a week from Saturday.
