The Division A council seat has now been filled with an interim council person, and today a resident of Youngsville has officially announced their candidacy to run for the seat. Dr. Patricia Lanier is running for the Division A council seat.

Earlier this year, Jamey Absire left his council seat to take a job with the Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department, a move that left his seat vacant. In this interim, former Youngsville Chief Administrative Office Simone Champagne was then appointed to the seat.

The election is set to be held on October 9 this year.

Lanier is currently a management professor at UL Lafayette along with being a consultant for human resource and strategic management. Lanier also held a position with Entergy at one point.

Here is what Dr. Lanier had to say about her candidacy announcement today via press release,

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Youngsville City Council. Youngsville is my home. I want to represent the interests of our community and contribute to the continued growth of our great city.

Lanier has spent time assisting non-profit groups throughout the area by during strategic analysis for them. In addition to this community services she also chairs the membership committee on the Youngsville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She has previously volunteered with the Girls Scouts and Goodwill of Acadiana by being a part of their boards.

In her press release, Dr. Lanier details one of the areas in which she has already served the people of Youngsville:

The 2015 Moody College of Business Executive MBA team developed a detailed Growth Guidance Plan that was used as the foundation for the Youngsville Master Plan and continues to provide strategic direction to community leaders.

Dr. Lanier was a part of the first Leadership Youngsville.
