A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized over the weekend after suffering severe injuries from a boating accident on False River in Pointe Coupee Parish on Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:15 pm on Saturday, June 15, the Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and Acadian Ambulance responded to the boating accident on the river.

Sadly, the teen was run over by the boat.

"A child was run over by a boat and sustained severe injuries to the extremities," said Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux.

The child was taken from the water to a boat launch in Jarreau, where he was then airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the incident.
