HOUMA, La. (AP) — Kristy Moore said she felt the first contractions last Thursday during supper with friends.

Later, Kristy and husband Jason wrapped Christmas gifts.

The expectant mother from Bayou Blue dismissed the pains because the baby wasn't due for weeks and contractions soon eased.

They started again about 5 a.m. Christmas Eve. She awakened Jason with word it was time to get to the hospital.

"We started to get ready," said Kristy, a speech therapist in the Terrebonne Parish school system. "I got out of bed, and when I did, my water broke."

They walked to the family minivan in the carport, but it was too late. The baby was coming.

Minutes later, baby Lylah Ann Moore debuted, weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

Mom and baby are doing fine.
