NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The crew of an offshore drilling unit rescued four people after the small plane they were in crashed into the Gulf of Mexico 170 miles south of New Orleans.

Rescued after Saturday's crash were Gary Intravia of Mandeville, Kelly McHugh of Madisonville and Ken Ross and Greg Drude of Hammond.

The Coast Guard received a report at about 2:20 p.m. that a Malibu P46 aircraft had been forced to land in the Gulf of Mexico. The Coast Guard picked up the four people, who had been pulled alive from a life raft and taken to the drilling rig West Sirius.

The four to West Jefferson Medical Center for evaluation, but the Coast Guard says none appeared to be seriously injured.
