DIY Cold Remedies That Really Work
'Tis the season for cold and flu. Ugh. But fortunately for us, it's 2019, and we have a wealth of information available to help out with getting over the sniffles and sore throats. Cheapism.com has found some amazing do-it-yourself cures for the common cold from around the world, that honestly, have worked for years. Don't ever discount Grandma's advice for home remedies, y'all. Check out some of my favorites below, and be sure to see the whole list for some handy winter time advice, And we're not doctors, just trying to pass along a little helpful info in case you have a cold. Make sure you go see a doctor if you are not comfortable with these.
- Chicken soup. Yes, it's been called 'Jewish penicillin' for over a century, and with good reason. The homemade variety has been known to lesson symptoms
- Onions and Honey. Dominican Republic abuelas prepare a cough syrup combining these two ingredients
- Ginger and turmeric tea.Steep the two together to counter anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects
- Black pepper. Anti-microbial, and breaks up mucus to help expel easier. Used in India
- Hot Sake. In japan they combine with a raw egg, sugar, and ginger to ease sleeplessness
- Ginger Soup. Used in China, with the same healing qualities as our chicken soup. You can also take egg drop soup and add a teaspoon of fresh ginger
- Cayenne Pepper and Juice. My grandmother always mixed the cayenne with honey to help soothe a sore throat. Juice is also a good immune booster
- Apple Cider Vinegar. One teaspoon in a glass of water helps ward off viruses.
- Chile. Chile peppers have been known to relieve congestion.
- Cloves. High in anti-oxidants. Mix with honey and cinnamon for a homemade cough syrup
