BATON ROUGE

– Today, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle commented on the recent $5 million deposit of BP funds for use in revitalizing the Louisiana tourism industry following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The deposit is the result of an agreement signed in November requiring BP to provide $30 million over 18 months for a Tourism Recovery Plan.  The funds were deposited into an account within the Community Foundation of Acadiana, which serves as the fiscal agent for the recovery funds. While serving the state as interim-Lt. Governor, Angelle led negotiations with BP to secure this tourism funding.
“I am pleased to see that the fruits of our negotiations are becoming reality in the form of this initial payment from BP,” said Angelle.
Louisiana Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Michot said, “Now that we have received the first installment of tourism recovery funds from BP, I look forward to seeing its impact on restoring Louisiana’s tourism industry.”
