Lafayette Parish voters chose to approve a rededication of property tax funds to go to drainage and the CREATE initiative for culture and tourism development.

The measure was approved by a vote of 9,845-to-7,109 (58 % to 42%).

The proposition would rededicate 3.56 mils to the two purposes with 1.10 mills going to fund drainage projects; 0.25 mills for CREATE; and 2.21 mills for other public health purposes.

Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux told KPEL Friday voters had responded favorably to the rededication via social media.

Other Propositions

The parish-wide 10-year 2.34-mills renewal for the courthouse and jail complex was approved by a vote of 66-to-34-percent vote.

Also approved was the  10-year renewal of a 2.06-mill proposal that will fund the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Minimum Security Detention and Correctional Facility. Parish voters approved the renewal by a vote of 65-to-35-percent.
