Engineers Create Computer Enhanced Contact Lense [Video]
The future is now.
Straight out of an episode of Black Mirror (why did they think this would be a good idea?) comes a contact lense that has a tiny computer attached to it.
The computer allows the wearer to take photos, take videos, surf the web, or get turn by turn directions without taking your eyes off the road.
Is this awesome or creepy? Or both?
Here's how the article about the contact lense starts:
“Movie characters from the Terminator to the Bionic Woman use bionic eyes to zoom in on far-off scenes, have useful facts pop into their field of view, or create virtual crosshairs. Off the screen, virtual displays have been proposed for more practical purposes—visual aids to help vision-impaired people, holographic driving control panels and even as a way to surf the Web on the go.”
When your first movie reference in the very first line is The Terminator, they probably should have just self destructed production immediately.
“People may find all sorts of applications for it that we have not thought about. Our goal is to demonstrate the basic technology and make sure it works and that it’s safe,” said Babak Parviz, a UW assistant professor of electrical engineering, who heads a group that is developing electronics for contact lenses.
So, you have an idea to enhance people's lives. But you know that you haven't thought of all of the uses for it. This is how the bad happens. This is how we get The Terminator or other apocalyptic rise of the machines movies.
Or...this:
Sweet dreams.
