NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department says two former Louisiana law officers with a Drug Enforcement Administration task force have been indicted on a variety of criminal charges.

A department news release says 49-year-old Karl Emmett Newman of Kentwood and 27-year-old Johnny Jacob Domingue of Maurepas were charged in a grand jury indictment unsealed Tuesday. The release says both are former DEA task force officers, and both have served as sheriff's deputies in south Louisiana's Tangipahoa Parish.

Charges listed against Newman include conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and oxycodone, robbery, possessing a firearm during a crime of violence and falsifying records. Domingue is charged with one count of falsifying records in a federal investigation.

Both are in federal custody after pleading not guilty Tuesday.
