NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A former New Orleans police sergeant has denied a friend's allegation she lied to a grand jury because she held a grudge against one of the five current or former officers charged in a deadly police shooting after Hurricane Katrina.

Sgt. Erin Reilly testified Friday that she told the truth to the grand jury probing the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Henry Glover.

But Detective Catherine Beckett testified Thursday that Reilly confided in her that she lied to the grand jury because of an argument she had with Lt. Robert Italiano, who is charged with obstructing the federal investigation.

Reilly testified she told Italiano about a possible connection between the discovery of Glover's burned body and the earlier shooting. Italiano said he didn't make that connection until several years later.
