Faith House is a sheltered for abused women in Acadiana, and they have helped thousands of people from the seven Acadiana parishes.

There is an easy way to help Faith House that's happening in just a few weeks: The 11th Annual Faith House King Cake 5K & Virtual Run, Saturday, May 8 at Sugar Mill Pond.

This year's King Cake 5K Grand Marshall this year is local attorney Glenn Armentor who has been a long-time supporter of Faith House.

All of the money from the event will be used for several programs that are under the Faith House umbrella including:

  • The Emergency Shelter
  • Their Non-residential Program
  • Their Transitional Housing Program
  • Their Permanent Housing Program
  • Their 24-hour Crisis Line
  • Their Public Education Program
  • The Family Justice Center of Acadiana

All of these program are free of charge to those who need the services of Faith House of Acadiana. You can click here to find the Faith House website for more information.

Glenn Armentor and Nicole Cockerham with Faith House joined us on "Acadiana's Morning News" to talk about the event. Armentor talked about the fact that in the year since the coronavirus pandemic and shutdown started, the request for services from Faith House has gone up seventy percent at a time when their donations have dropped fifty percent.

Cockerham says everyone that registers for the event will be getting a shirt, a swag bag and a finishing medal. They will also be following Covid-19 precautions with staggering the start times for racers along with having plenty of hand sanitizer at the event.
