Fire Safety Bags Installed In Airplanes
At least three U.S. airlines are adding new fire prevention equipment to their planes in case a cellphone or laptop battery overheats or becomes a fire hazard.
The Associated Press reports that the safety measures are being taken after repeated issues with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones, which have been overheating and causing fire hazards.
Fire containment bags are made of a fire-resistant material and are designed to hold electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops that can sometimes overheat and catch fire. The bags can be shut with Velcro and heavy-duty zippers and can withstand temperatures up to 3,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Virgin has added bags to all of their planes, and Delta and American have plans to follow in 2017.
