Firehouse BBQ in Legal Battle with Gov. Edwards: “Everybody’s Watching”
Danielle Bunch, the owner of Firehouse BBQ and the parent company God's Table LLC, joined the "Moon Griffon Show" on Thursday to discuss her fight to keep her business open.
Despite the Louisiana Department of Health revoking the restaurant's food permit and a judge ordering the restaurant to close its doors, Bunch is keeping Firehouse BBQ open in Watson, Livingston Parish. The restaurant's permit was stripped away because she did not comply with all of the mask mandates handed down by Governor John Bel Edwards' office, mandates she told Moon she doesn't believe are actually helping to stop COVID-19.
Not only is Bunch keeping Firehouse BBQ open, but her lawyer Jeff Wittenbrink filed temporary restraining orders against Governor Edwards and other state officials. According to livingstonparishnews.com, the injunction was filed in 21st Judicial District Court on Wednesday one day after LDH asked for Bunch to be held in contempt of court. According to Central City News Facebook page, the Judge has granted the restraining orders.
In Bunch's interview with Moon, she talks about the support she has received from people all over the state in her fight to stay open, whether it's by words of encouragement or by patronizing her business. She also talks about the negative reaction she has received, especially highlighting out-of-state complainers.
They also discussed the seriously of this legal fight and what it could mean for other restaurants and businesses.
