Five Keys to Beating South Alabama – From the Bird’s Nest
The 7-2 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns travel to Mobile, AL to take on 1-8 South Alabama in the Cajuns' final road game of the season. A win would give Louisiana its first perfect road record since 1970.
The Cajuns are a four touchdown favorite in the game. If they are going to get win #8, here are some things to watch for.
FOCUS--One of the things I love about this football team has been their "one game at a time" mentality. It's something that has been instilled in this team ever since Billy Napier got to campus. This might be the biggest test of focus all season long. The Cajuns need to come ready to play and take control of the game early.
MAKE MINTER MISERABLE--Tra Minter has a chance to become the first 1000 yard rusher in South Alabama history. He's averaging 5.6 yards per carry on the season. The first key for the defense is to shut him down, putting pressure on new quarterback Desmond Trotter to perform at a high level.
BLANKET BAKER--Kawaan Baker had three touchdown catches against the Cajuns last year and once again, he's the biggest receiving threat. With Michael Jacquet questionable for the game, someone has to step up and cover this guy. He's the one big play threat the Jags have.
IMPOSE YOUR WILL UP FRONT--On both sides of the ball. The Cajuns are likely without Robert Hunt again this week, but the Cajuns really haven't missed a beat. Look for them to be physical and look for the running game to be solid. On the other side of the ball, the Cajuns should be able to get some pressure on the quarterback.
NO RETURNS ALLOWED--Minter had 223 all purpose yards last week. One of his strengths is in the return game. The Cajuns have done a good job covering kicks this year and that's a point of emphasis in this one.
