There's been a recent spike in flu activity in Louisiana. Flu is spreading across Louisiana at a rapid pace. State Director of Immunology for the Department of Health & Hospitals Dr. Frank Welch says the number of reported cases of folks suffering flu-like symptoms has increased by 8% in just one week. Welch says flu symptoms accounted for over 20% of doctor visits across the state last week. Central Louisiana and the Capital Region had the highest concentrations of flu cases. Dr. Welch says one's best defense is getting a flu shot. Welch says flu can be especially bad for people with breathing disorders--like asthma, weakened immune systems, pregnant women, young kids and senior citizens. He says the best way to fight the flu is to get the shot.(Useful information available at "fightthefluLA.com")
