FoodNet Founder Marcelle Citron, 92, Dies
Founder of FoodNet, and the mind behind Acadiana's biggest food drive, Marcelle Citron passed away Saturday night at her home.
citron was instrumental in her humanitarian efforts here in Lafayette and surrounding areas. She started FooNet--a nonprofit food bank in Lafayette in 1987.
She was also well known as the matriarch of the Hub City Ford franchise in Lafayette. The New Orleans native took over the family business from her father who started the Lafayette Ford dealership.
Among her many accolades for her dedication to giving back to her community and her business acumen, she earned such awards as the Lafayette Civic Cup; the Farm Bureau Freedom Award; the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for service and volunteerism in 2005; and the Jefferson Award, the highest award for community service in the nation.
Services will tentatively be held at Walters Funeral Hone on Tuesday with funeral services being held at st. Jhon's Cathedral at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
