Some unfortunate news to report out of Lafayette, Louisiana, a child is dead as a result of a gunshot wound.

Here's what Lafayette Police are telling us:

"On July 18, 2024, at 10:34 AM, the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 block of Bryan St about an injured four-year-old child. The child was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where the child was pronounced deceased. LPD investigators were called to the scene and are actively investigating this incident. An update will be disseminated once additional information is obtained."

Since that release was sent to us, an update has been sent, and here is what LPD is now saying:

"Regarding the shooting incident on July 18, 2024 in the 100 block of Bryan St., initial reports indicate the victim (4/H/M) was accidentally shot by his older brother (10/H/M). This incident will continue to be investigated by the Lafayette Police Department.'
