Get back to some semblance of normalcy this weekend in downtown Lafayette. It's the Great Painted Pumpkin Festival Saturday, October 24 starting at 3 pm at Parc International. This year's family-friendly pumpkin contest (hosted by Latter & Blum) will be followed by a special Movies in the Parc (presented by Lafayette Kiwanis)  featuring "Jurassic Park".

Our first event last year was so successful, we did not know what to expect but people showed up with painted pumpkins of all types. From pumpkins painted with beautiful scenery, to pumpkins with lighting, to a box of donut pumpkins and more. This event is fun for everyone, including young children. There'll be a lot to see Saturday and after the Great Painted Pumpkin Festival winds down, Movies in the Parc will show Jurrasic Parc in Parc International.-Event Coordinator Jackie Lyle

Due to current state mandates, everyone must pre-register to attend via Eventbrite. Registration is only $5 per painted pumpkin contest entry and $5 per movie ticket. All registered attendees can bring a painted pumpkin to enter into the pumpkin-judging contest or paint a pumpkin on site. Painted Pumpkin contest winners will be announced at approximately 6:30 pm and the movie will begin around 7 pm.

Paint, markers and other decorating materials will be provided. Judges will select first, second and third place winners in a variety of categories. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.

The Haynie Family Foundation, Louisiana CLI and & Limb Salvage Club, Performing Arts Serving Acadiana (PASA), Right Angle and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited (DLU) are also supporting sponsors of the Great Painted Pumpkin Festival.
