One of my favorite artists is Harry Connick, Jr. He is truly a rarity when it comes to the music industry. But, his heart and passion are what I love the most. Of course, being from New Orleans, he has a very soft spot for his hometown. Beginning Thursday, May 14, and concluding Sunday, May 17, Harry Connick Jr and his film crew will be working on a tribute to frontline workers. Employees in healthcare, public safety, sanitation, grocery stores, and others whose work puts them at greater risk than others during the pandemic will be recognized and honored in his television program, “United We Sing”.

As we enter Phase 1 in Louisiana and businesses prepare to reopen after two long months of staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, Harry Connick Jr. was already on the streets. He does make sure to let everyone know in his Facebook post that he and his crew are taking all safety precautions while filming. Several people spotted the Louisiana native wearing a face mask and gloves while dancing on a deserted Bourbon Street on Thursday while filming for his TV special. “United We Sing” will be a special on CBS. An air date hasn’t been announced yet, but we can’t wait.

Harry Connick, Jr. always keeps his New Orleans roots alive in all of his performances, which is what makes him so loveable. He began performing as a pianist and vocalist at the age of five in New Orleans and was taught by two of the city’s keyboard legends, James Booker and Ellis Marsalis. Naturally, Harry will do a special tribute in the TV special to the legacy of Ellis Marsalis, a prominent performer, and educator who succumbed to complications of the coronavirus.

According to Nola.com, the project is produced in partnership with Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s Office of Cultural Economy through the Film Office. It will be filmed in six different New Orleans locations.
