Houston Man Arrested On Multiple Charges
(St. Martinville, La.) - On Thursday, February 17, 2011 at approximately 7:30 a.m., the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office S.L.I.C.E. Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche on Interstate 10 East bound near mile post 111 for a traffic violation. During the stop, Agents detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A consensual search of the vehicle yielded a firearm, and approximately 400 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $793,000.00. Thomas Benson III, 30, of Houston, Texas, was arrested on the following charges:

Possession With Intent To Distribute Schedule I CDS (Marijuana)
Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges.
