Huffy Issues Recall for Child’s Ride-On UTV Sold at Walmart
If you've purchased or have asked Santa to acquire a ride on UTV toy for your child from Christmas you might want to double-check the brand and model that you're looking into. Huffy has announced it is voluntarily recalling its Torex 24 volt ride-on toy that was sold exclusively at Walmart stores across the county.
The recall was made over a potential injury hazard. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, there is a possibility that the vehicle could unexpectedly move while the battery is being connected. This movement could cause injury, especially to a child.
So far Huffy has received 36 reports of incidents involving the toy but so far no injuries have been reported. The Consumer Products Safety Commission says that more than 5,100 of the toys have been sold to consumers between August of 2019 and September of 2020. The CPSC recommends that if you have one of these toys at your home you cease using it immediately.
If you have questions or concerns about the product or the recall you can contact Huffy by calling toll-free at 888-366-3828 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at torex@huffy.com or online at https://www.huffybikes.com and click on “Safety Notices” at the bottom of the page.
The company is offering a free replacement controller for the toy. This should eliminate the injury concern. As always with any ride-on toy where young children are concerned, they should only be used under adult supervision.
