It can be tempting to try and press forward when you encounter flooding on the roadway. But there’s a reason for the saying “turn around, don’t drown.” 

According to the National Weather Service, more people die from drowning in floodwaters each year than from any other hazard related to thunderstorms. Let that sink in.

Many people underestimate the power of floodwaters and fall victim to drowning. The below video is the perfect example of just how powerful floodwaters can be. 

Footage shows the terrifying moment a semi is sucked into flooding on I-59 near Shepherd, Texas. In less than a minute the truck is almost completely submerged. The driver got out and on top of the cab where he was eventually able to be rescued, according to Fox 26. 

We still have a way to go in peak storm season. Be careful out there.
