Look Back at When Your Favorite Lafayette DJs Went to UL (or USL)

Lafayette, LA (KPEL News) - Caps will fly as students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette walk across the stage to receive that document that says they have completed their four years (or more) of higher education and are now ready to enter the real world of adulthood. Those of us who remember the days when we would climb what felt like 28 flights of steps to the top floor of H.L. Griffin Hall have an odd fondness for the memory.

All but one of our esteemed DJs attended our hometown university prior to the turn of the century, when the school was still the University of Southwestern Louisiana. A student had to go to the actual library and use actual books to do research. We pecked away on actual typewriters to write all those papers and, God forbid, we really mess up a line.

Fast forward and today, you can get all the information you need through an invisible line connecting computers, and White Out is a thing of the past. Fortunately, the library and publishers of the L'Acadien yearbooks have put all the information and pictures as close as the click of a couple keys and a mouse. If you attended UL or USL and took a picture for your student ID, your photo is in the yearbook.

And what treasures we found!

Several members of the programming team at Townsquare Media, home of Lafayette's best radio stations, graduated from UL and will always be Ragin' Cajuns. We just look a lot different now.

Here's ya boy Jude, rockin' the 'stash! If you know Jude, he's got a quick wit and is otherwise very pensive, not much different than he looks in his yearbook picture. Don't let that boyish face fool you. He's whip-smart and our resident grammar police.

The smile you see in her college picture is the same beautiful smile we are treated to every single day. Bernie is always positive. That happy smile hides a broadcaster's brain that always thinks of what's important to her listeners.

Sun-in and big hair. Wanna guess when Tracy attended USL? This fresh-faced kid traipsed across campus from Griffin to Maxim Doucet to Burke Hall not having a clue what life had in store for her. Always wanting to be in broadcasting until she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up, she's still in the business and wondering if she will ever grow up!
