Much Needed Break From Heatwave Coming For Those in Louisiana

(Lafayette, Louisiana) - The heat is on in South Louisiana, and in just a few short days, we could get a break from the extreme temperatures.

In recent days, temperatures have soared into the mid-to-upper 90s, and if you've been weather-aware, you may have even heard that there have been extreme heat warnings for our region.

While temperatures during the day have steadily been in the 90s, the heat indices on some days have exceeded 108 degrees; thus, that is why the heat advisories have been issued across the Deep South.

Acadiana Weather Forecast

Well, we have some good news for you and your yards; relief could be on the way by this weekend.

Just a few days ago, I was cutting grass in the yard at home, and like many of you, while I was sweating on the lawnmower, I couldn't help but notice a few small brown patches in my yard, indicating that my lawn could use some water on it as these extreme temperatures bake the lawn.

Rain chances begin to increase in Louisiana by this Thursday, July 30, and rain showers will linger into the weekend, with the best chance of rain occurring by Sunday. So, if you do have yard work to address at home, you will want to get it done by the middle of this week.

With these summer showers, we could see high temperatures on some days only reach the lower 90s, and perhaps even only the upper 80s. I know that doesn't sound like much of a break, but as we wrap up the month of July and approach the beginning of August, we will take any relief "Mother Nature" has to offer.

Peak of Hurricane Season

If you want more good news in the world of weather, the tropics are quiet for the time, and meteorologists are not forecasting any developments in the next week or so. Let's hope that remains the case as we enter mid-August and September, when hurricane season peaks.

Here's a look at the extended forecast for Acadiana from KATC TV--3, and like many of you, we are glad to welcome the cooling showers by the end of the weekend and into the weekend.
