According to Williams Huggins with the Public Affairs Section of Louisiana State Police, Trooper Isaiah Gilbert of Hammond's car went off of the roadway on Interstate 55 and hit a sign.
Huggins says the vehicle ended up hitting a sign. Gilbert was booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Operation. These are the sections of law that pertain to his charges:

Trooper Gilbert was off-duty at the time of the crash, and Huggins says Gilbert was driving his personal vehicle when this incident happened.
Gilbert has been placed on administrative leave while officials continue to investigate the case. He has been a patrol officer with the Louisiana State Police since 2021.
Huggins adds that as the investigation is underway, officials have taken all of Gilbert's law enforcement property from him until the conclusion of the case.
