Dollar General Expanding Key Service For Smaller Towns

(KMDL-FM) I am sure it can be done, but can you name a town that doesn't have a Dollar General Dollar Store? Be careful, make sure you know what the definition of a town is in Louisiana, you could be trying to put a Dollar General in a village or unincorporated campsite. But seriously, if you live in a small town with a Dollar General store, your life may have just gotten a bit easier.

By the way, in Louisiana, we classify towns as municipalities with a population of over 1,001 and under 4,999 residents. A city is a municipality that has over 5,000 residents. Anything less than 1,000 residents is considered a village. And in Louisiana, any gathering of 500 or so people is called a family reunion. Yeah, we have big families, don't we?

And a lot of families in Louisiana depend on dollar stores such as Dollar Tree and Dollar General because they are the only retail businesses, other than gas stations and convenience stores, that are willing to set up shop in the smaller communities. And while the workers at these stores are grossly underpaid and tremendously overworked, they are usually quite friendly and always willing to help.

What Service is Dollar General Expanding in Rural Communities in Louisiana?

Which brings us to the expanded service that Dollar General has announced for so many smaller communities, not just in Louisiana but across the country. One of the benefits of living in a larger city is the convenience of home delivery. It's hard to get that in the country.

I remember, as a kid, having to ride to the end of my street by the main highway just to get a pizza delivered. So, the fact that Dollar General is expanding not only their home delivery service but same day home delivery service to homes in smaller communities could be life-changing. Or at least help give someone somewhere a bit of a break.

Dollar General Now Offering Same-Day Delivery to Louisiana's Smaller Communities

The same-day delivery service is available via the DG App and the Dollar General Website. DG Delivery is now available at more than 17,000 stores across the DG footprint. Louisiana has almost 700 Dollar General stores, and almost all of them are in smaller communities or in the smaller suburbs of larger communities.

Here's a stat that you can take to the bank, 75% of Americans live within 5 miles of a Dollar General Store. The company hopes its "location, location, location" will offer a convenient resource for shopping.

The delivery services will be handled through ongoing partnerships with DoorDash and Uber Eats.
