The "Great American Eclipse" as it was billed for much of the day yesterday has now come and gone. Behind are just the memories of those who saw, the trash of those who were not responsible, the Google searches for "my eyes hurt" for those who didn't pay attention, and of course there are the strange but true stories that only a celestial event of this magnitude can inspire.

There is a reason why the word lunacy and lunar are so closely connected. The moon causes some of us, or maybe it's all of us, to act a little differently. It would make sense that a celestial body that can influence the tides in our oceans could certainly affect and even enhance our mental state of mind, right?

If you speak to anyone in law enforcement or the medical community they will tell you that strange things happen when the moon goes full. I can only imagine some of the stories will hear in the days following this most recent eclipse. One such story was reported along Interstate 10 yesterday.

Woman Says God Told Her to Go on a Shooting Spree

What's even more surprising about this particular event is that it took place a great distance from the Path of Totality. Let's face it, if someone was going to have an "episode" you'd think it would be closer to where the total darkness was but this was not the case.

Florida State Police say a Georgia woman began firing shots from her car along I-10 near the town of Bonifay. The woman reportedly told workers at a hotel where she was staying that she was going on a shooting spree directed by God related to the solar eclipse.

At least two vehicles were struck by gunfire. One of the occupants of one of the vehicles was struck in the neck by gunfire.

That person was taken to a hospital for treatment. Florida State Troopers were able to apprehend the woman, who was identified as Taylon Nichelle Celestine about ten miles down the road from where the second shooting took place.

Celestine was booked without bond pending an initial court appearance. The charges include attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
