Lafayette Whole Foods Adds ‘Pay With Your Palm’ Feature — Here’s How It Works

Every week you head to the grocery store to pick up your weekly essentials and you swipe your card, use Apple Pay, or maybe you still use cash. Who am I kidding? No one carries cash anymore especially now that an even more innovative form of paying is hitting stores now.

Have you ever wished that the transaction at the grocery store was more convenient? Honestly, we hadn't given it a second thought. Apple Pay already makes it entirely too easy to spend money, regardless of what we think paying with your hand is officially a thing now with the Amazon One device.

We are still trying to figure out who asked Amazon to create a device that reads the palm of your hand as a form of payment. However, this could come in 'hand'y, pun intended, if you forget your wallet at home.

How Amazon One Works:

The Amazon One device is designed to read the palm of your hand's distinct features that are completely unique to you in seconds. You are probably familiar with facial recognition technology if you are an iPhone user and this device reads your palm just as quickly but uses a more advanced technology that actually encrypts your palm image to protect it from theft.

If you are interested in trying it out, you will need to create a unique palm signature that the Amazon One device will read every time you use it.

Feedback on the Amazon One Device in Lafayette, Lousiana

We came across this new device at Whole Foods in Lafayette over the weekend and of course, we had to inquire about what it was since we had never seen it before.

The cashier said it was currently only at the Lafayette location and in Seattle for now but that Amazon had plans to roll it out across the country.

They found it interesting that Amazon would invest in this more luxurious technology when their AC desperately needs repairs and Amazon has continued to make budget cuts limiting PTO and unpaid time off since taking over. Employees shared that it seems unnecessary since they have more pressing issues at hand. Additionally, they hope that Amazon makes strides to invest in its employees and stores aside from bringing in new tech.
