In a tragic incident that unfolded at Carencro Park on Prejean Rd. on Thursday (11/9), two young men were at the center of a shooting incident that resulted in one fatality and another left in critical condition. The Carencro Police Department responded swiftly to the reports of gunshots, and the details of the incident have now been released.

When officers arrived at the scene shortly after 2:00 pm, they discovered two male victims inside a vehicle, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, 18-year-old Tyrell Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, 18-year-old Eric Nunnery, was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.

Thanks to the cooperation of the public, the assistance of crime cameras, and collaboration with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center, law enforcement identified and swiftly apprehended the suspect, 21-year-old Kamie Leblanc. Leblanc was located in Lafayette approximately 20 minutes after the shooting occurred, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Kamie Leblanc now faces a slew of serious charges in connection with the shooting, including Distribution/Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Narcotics, a First Degree Murder Charge, one count of Attempted First Degree-Murder, Illegal Carrying Of a Weapon, and Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon. Leblanc is currently being held without bond at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center as they await further legal proceedings.

The Carencro Police Department, led by Chief David Anderson, has indicated that this will be the only information released at this time, as detectives continue their investigation into this tragic case.
