Jennings High Football Standout Shuns LSU, Signs With Clemson
A rather big fish in LSU football's recruiting plans has jumped the dam. Travis Etienne, a four-sport standout at Jennings High School announced that he intends to enroll in college and play NCAA football with the defending national champion Clemson Tigers.
This news was a bit of a surprise as earlier reports suggested that the Etienne was focusing on LSU, Texas A&M, and Tennessee. Clemson came into the picture late after head coach Dabo Swinney extended an offer to the multi-sport star. The Clemson coach then paid a visit to Etienne in person.
Etienne, a four-star prospect and the eighth-ranked player from Louisiana, had a scheduled visit with LSU planned for this weekend. That visit has since been cancelled.
In his signing announcement according to 24/7 Sports the 5-foot-11, 210-pound tailback might have tweaked the noses of many LSU supporters by calling Clemson "the real Death Valley". LSU has just one running back committed to its 2017 class: Catholic High three-star prospect Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
