Former John Curtis star and NFL running back Joe McKnight was shot and killed in New Orleans this afternoon, according to multiple reports and confirmed by New Orleans law enforcement. He was 28 years old.

Law enforcement officials confirm McKnight was killed in a road rage incident at the intersection of Behrman Highway and Holmes Boulevard in Terrytown, a suburb in New Orleans located on the West Bank.

Jonthan Bullington of The-Times Picayune/nola.com quotes a female witness who claims McKnight was trying to apologize to a man who was yelling at him, before shooting him multiple times and cursing as he stood over his body.

McKnight was one of the top prep athletes in the country at John Curtis, located in River Ridge, a suburb of New Orleans.

He attended USC, where he played 3 seasons before entering the NFL Draft,

In 2010, he was selected by the New York Jets in the 4th round.

After 3 seasons in New York, McKnight spent 2013 out of football before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014. He got off to a great start in KC before suffering a torn achilles' tendon in week 3.

Most recently, McKnight played in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He rushed for 150 yards on October 15th in his first CFL start.
