After serving three terms as Lafayette City-Parish President, Joey Durel is still working in the area he has overseen for the last 12 years.

IBERIABANK has named Durel as Business Development Officer for Lafayette, Louisiana.

“I have been a great fan of IBERIABANK for a long time, both as a customer, and as Lafayette Mayor-President,” said Joey Durel. “IBERIABANK is a great corporate citizen, and we always knew we could count on them for help in our community. I am especially proud to have the largest bank in the state, maintain its headquarters in Acadiana, right here in Lafayette. This job will allow me to continue to play a role on developing Acadiana, while giving me the flexibility to pursue other interests.”

You may remember the Lafayette native as a successful businessman before he became the head figure in Lafayette. He was not only the owner of his family-owned business, Durel’s Pet Shops, but he also owned several other businesses, including Arby’s restaurants. He won numerous honors during that time and even through his time as Lafayette City-Parish President.

“We are thrilled to have Joey join our team and are confident that his background in owning and managing his own business along with his extensive experience in running our city will be an asset to our Company,” said Jerry Vascocu, Acadiana Market President. “His unique experience will also add to the diversity of our team, enhance our client relationships, and help leverage our investments in Acadiana.

KPEL’s Bernadette Lee sat down with Durel to get his thoughts on being named to the prestigious position, as well as what he’ll be doing.
