NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Efforts to control stray animals are back on track in New Orleans.

The mayor's office has announced a new four-year-agreement for animal control services with the Louisiana SPCA.

The SPCA has furnished the services in New Orleans for more than 60 years, but the two sides recently broke off talks on a new agreement and the city said it would take over the services.

The new agreement will cost the city more than $1.9 million a year, an increase over the city's original offer of $1.7 million. The Louisiana SPCA services include trapping and sheltering of strays, assistance during hurricanes and disasters and quarantining animals in bite cases.
