The majority of the employees of the Lafayette Parish School are in for some good news, as the board has voted to approve bonus paychecks for most of the people in the system.

Some 2,400 teachers and most of the other employees will be getting a bonus check.

Teachers, counselors and librarians and other eligible will be getting a check later this month for nearly $2,200.

So where does the money come from?  The bonuses will be paid out the reserves from a 2002 half-cent sales tax that voters approved that is dedicated to teacher and support personnel pay only.

The tax generated around $26 million, and there is now $7 million left in that fund.
