Lafayette Board Finds Money For Extra Teacher Pay
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — An additional $1,000 will be added to the salary schedules of Lafayette Parish public school teachers.
The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1nLxX6O ) the Lafayette Parish School Board unanimously voted Wednesday to use some of the money from a 2002 sales tax in teachers' regular pay. Teachers will still receive a supplemental check each year, which would be about $1,200 per teacher.
The decision came a day after a committee voted to recommend putting some of the money into teacher salaries, rather than lumping it all into an annual distribution. The additional $1,000 will be divided among teachers' regular paychecks.
Besides teachers, the move affects counselors, librarians and others.
