Lafayette, LA (KPEL News) - Jobs are always a hot topic, especially for people who are currently out of work and looking for a team to join. Lafayette Consolidated Government has recently unfrozen more than 200 positions across the employment spectrum. It takes a lot of people to make government run, and open positions can affect services.

Case in point: Acadiana Campground in Lafayette needs people to keep the park running for campers.

According to the LCG website, the 150-acre facility in north Lafayette offers an oasis of fun activities for families to enjoy:

  • 75 camping spots available
  • Restrooms with showers
  • Access to the Nature Trails
  • Access to Acadiana Park
  • 2 playground units for children 5-12 years old
  • Picnic tables
  • Covered pavilions
  • BBQ pits
  • Fire rings
  • Electrical and water hookups
  • A black water dump station located near the campground entrance at E. Alexander St.

In conjunction with the Lafayette Science Museum, they offer a slate of environmental education activities where participants can learn by seeing and doing.

But you can't make reservations to park your RV and enjoy the sights and sounds going forward until further notice.

A release from Lafayette Consolidated Government announced that they have paused additional reservations, beginning May 29. The temporary suspension is due, they say, to a current shortage of staff.

They go on to say that:

PARC [Parks, Arts, Recreation, & Culture] is actively working to address the staffing issues and will notify the public as soon as reservations can be resumed.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a job, the LCG website has a list of openings across a number of departments. Visit their website and click on "Careers."

In the meantime, you can keep your kids busy at any one of several summer camps being offered around the Lafayette area, by both LCG and Lafayette Parish School System. Click on the links to see what's available.
