The Lafayette City-Parish Council is holding a series of hearings on the proposed 2011 - 2012 budget.
The budget proposed by the Durel Administration is an austere budget that for the first time in ten years has no employee pay raises included.  Only a two percent increase is mandated by state law for firefighters.

Like local governments across the country Lafayette is facing pension costs of $730,000 this year.  A $614 million budget is proposed with a 2 % decrease in property tax anticipated along with a 2% increase in sales tax revenes.

Your next chance to voice your opinion on the proposed budget is coming up Monday ( August 8 ) afternoon at City Hall on University.
