The Lafayette Parish Public Education Stakeholders Council plans to host several forums for candidates seeking a seat or re-election to their posts on the Lafayette Parish School Board.

The first debate will be held September 23, and it will be candidates in districts 1,2 and 3.

In district one, that seat is currently held by School board member Mark Babineaux, who has no said whether or not he will run again. Mary Morrison, a one-time fill-in member of the Lafayette City Parish Council, says she will be running for the seat currently held by Babineaux.

In the district three race, incumbent member Shelton Cobb says he will be running for the seat again, while Elroy Broussard has said he will run against Cobb.

The next debate, covering the races for districts four, five and six, will be held the following night on September 24.

Tehmi Chassion is the current representative from district four on the Lafayette Parish School Board.  Chassion has not said yet whether he plans to run for the post again, but Joshua Broussard has announced his candidacy for the seat.

In district five, current school board member Kermit Bouillion is the only candidate to announce for the seat as of yet, while in district six, which is currently held by Greg Awbrey, Kathleen Schott Espinoza, says she will run for the seat.  Awbrey has not decided on his plans about the race as of yet.

The next debate, covering the races for districts seven, eight and nine will be held the following night on September 24.

Incumbent district eight school board member Hunters Beasley has not yet announced his plans about the race, but Erick Knezek says he will run for the seat.

In district nine, two candidates have said they will run for the post, and they are Brian West along with Jeremy Hidalgo.  The incumbent, Rae Trahan has not made any formal announcement about the race.

The location of the debates has yet to be decided upon, but each debate will take place at 6 p.m. on their scheduled date.

The general election for school board will be November 4.
