Committees of the Lafayette Parish School Board are meeting today to discuss hiring security at meetings and to begin discussion on selecting legal counsel.

The Board voted earlier this month to give its president authority to hire security as needed, and today's executive committee meeting -- of Board President Hunter Beasley, Vice President Tommy Angelle and former President Shelton Cobb -- began drafting that policy.

At 6 p.m., a committee including Beasley, Angelle, board members Rae Trahan, Mark Cockerham and Kermit Bouillion and Superintendent Pat Cooper will talk about hiring legal counsel to represent the Board, which voted last year to relieve the District Attorney's office of that duty.

The LPSB voted 6-3 to hire Hammond, Sills, Adkins & Guice to fill the position.
