Lafayette Woman Dies In Four Car Crash
Louisiana State Police say a 50-year-old Lafayette woman died in a traffic crash on Interstate Ten westbound at Louisiana Avenue in the construction zone Wednesday afternoon.
Police arrested 29-year-old Everado Estada-Hernandez after he got out of his vehicle at the crash site and was running away on foot.
Trooper Brooks David says that Estada-Hernandez's Expedition failed to stop for traffic, and hit the back of Sheila Houston's Lexus sending it into the back of Hyyundai driven by 46-year-old Maria Mayeaux of Lafayette.
The Expedition kept going hit a tractor-trailer driving by 41-year-old Marcus Hoffpauir of Crowley.
Police say that's when Estada-Hernandez got out of his car, and ran away on foot only to be captured a short time later by Lafayette Police.
Houston was pronounced dead at the scene while Estada-Hernandez was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers say Estada-Hernandez was likely impaired when this crash happened.
He was charged with the following:
- Vehicular Homicide
- Hit and Run
- Careless Driving
- No Driver's License
- No Proof of Insurance
Troopers remind drivers to be prepared to stop in construction zones as work can often limit the flow of traffic.
