LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Lake Charles police have solved an aggravated rape case dating back to October 1999.

Police say in a news release that Lt. Kevin Kirkum with the Sex Crimes Unit reopened the cold case last December. After completing this investigation, Kirkum was able to obtain an arrest warrant for 45-year-old Austin Mott Jr. His bond is set at $1.5 million.

Police say Mott is a registered sex offender and is currently serving time in a Texas prison for an unrelated sex offense.

Investigators say a retesting of DNA in the 1999 case led officers to Mott.

Police say the victim was jogging near the Lake Charles Civic Center when she was severely beaten and sexually assaulted.
