Looks like the Lafayette Parish School Board could soon be headed to federal court.

The board decided at its regular meeting Wednesday against discussing potential litigation threatened by Cajundome Director and longtime school system advocate Greg Davis.

According to a draft of the suit, Davis says he wants the board to halt its investigation into Superintendent Pat Cooper and evoke a state law that would reverse some of its budget cuts. He also wants to prevent Mark Allen Babineaux and Tehmi Chassion from voting on personnel matters having to do with Cooper on the basis of what he says is previously exhibited bias.

Davis' attorney, Gary McGoffin, says it's likely he'll file suit "within the week."

It's worth noting McGoffin also represents the Lafayette Charter Foundation, which governs two of Lafayette's new charter schools that will open next week: the Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy on Willow Street and Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy near Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville.
