The Cajuns traveled to Ruston to play in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Wednesday and Jacob Schultz got the start for UL facing Matt Miller for Tech.

Both teams played to a stalemate until the fourth inning when the Cajuns got their first home run of the season and it came from second baseman Hunter Kasuls. Kasuls blasted a solo shot off the scoreboard to give them the lead at 1-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs threatened with runners on second and third with two outs. However, Schultz was able to step up and induce a popup from right fielder Mason Robinson and Tech was left off the scoreboard.

The Bulldogs were back at it in the 5th with runners on first and second but were again turned away. This time it was because of a sparkling play made in right field by Daniel Lahare who saved at least one run. 1-0 UL it stayed.

Schultz was done after five innings pitched giving up just two hits, two walks struck out three, and threw 74 pitches. Freshman Connor Cooke relieved him in the sixth.

Cooke couldn't make it out of the sixth as Caleb Armstrong came into relieve him as Cooke loaded the bases with two outs walking two and hitting a batter. Armstrong couldn't hold the fort as he allowed a single to Steele Netterville and the Bulldogs grabbed the lead 2-1.

Louisiana wouldn't go quietly as they made some noise in the top of the seventh when they loaded the bases and freshman Colton Frank hit for O'Neal Lochridge. Unfortunately, he grounded out to the pitcher who threw out the runner coming home for the force play. After that Daniel Lahare hit a ball well to left field but Mason Mallard made a tremendous catch to keep La Tech in the lead 2-1.

Things settled down until the ninth inning as it started with Brennan Breaux working a walk, Tremaine Spears pinch hit, singled Breaux to third and he advanced to second on the throw to third. Gavin Bourgeois then collected an infield single to tie the game with nobody out. Unfortunately, that's all that Louisiana would get in the ninth but the game was tied at 2.

In the tenth, Louisiana Tech was able to push across a run thanks to a Hayden Cantrelle throwing error and the Bulldogs won 3-2.

Michael Leaumont suffered the unfortunate loss and Louisiana falls to 1-3 on the season.

Up next for the Cajuns is a weekend series in Huntsville, Texas to face Sam Houston State.
