Louisiana Delegates Shine At Republican National Convention In Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wi. (KPEL News) - The Republican National Convention (RNC) kicks off today in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While Louisiana may not be hosting the convention, members of the Louisiana Congressional Delegation will play prominent roles in the four-day event.

According to the the RNC's webpage, the event will host an estimated 50,000 visitors, including the almost 2,400 delegates that will officially nominate the Republican candidate for President.

"During what may be the most important election of our lives, it is the job of the RNC’s Committee on Arrangements (COA) to plan a blockbuster, 4-day Convention that will be broadcast across the world. We will host upwards of 50,000 guests in Milwaukee, including the delegates who will nominate the next President and Vice President of the United States." - RNC Website

CONVENTION MOVING AHEAD AS PLANNED

The Convention schedule has not changed in light of the assassination attempt against former President and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Trump initially changed his itinerary after Saturday's shooting but decided yesterday to travel to Milwaukee as he had initially planned saying on his Truth Social account Sunday, "Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a “shooter,” or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else."

LOUISIANA'S PROMINENT ROLE

Aside from sending delegates, Louisiana will be represented throughout the convention's four days of programming. United States Speaker of the House Congressman Mike Johnson (R-La.) will chair the convention and serve as the master of ceremonies for the four-day event.

U.S. House Majority Leader and Louisiana's Steve Scalise (R-La.) is also expected to speak at the convention. Scalise, who survived an assassination attempt in 2017, has spoken out frequently over the weekend since the attempt on former President Trump's life Saturday, saying that both sides need to tamp down the rhetoric.

“Everybody’s got to look at the rhetoric. But, you know, it's one side that is going after Donald Trump in a way to demonize him personally. You know, when we talk about the policies of the Democrats and the progressives, it's those policies that need to be front and center, but the left seems to have targeted Donald Trump as a person,” Scalise told Fox News in an interview.

The Trump Campaign and RNC released program themes for the convention that they are billing as the "Make America Great Once Again" convention.

"The 2024 Republican National Convention will undoubtedly continue to build the energy and momentum necessary to drive President Donald J. Trump to victory this fall.
