LSU Fans to Witness Live Tiger on Sideline Prior to LSU/Bama Game?
LSU may be hitting the rewind button this weekend in Tiger Stadium when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Tigers are hosting Alabama in what could be the biggest game of the year in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and now there may be a familiar site on the sideline before kickoff.
According to Louisiana Sports.net, LSU will have a live tiger in a cage on the sideline before the LSU and Alabama game. No, it won't be Mike The Tiiger that lives in a million-dollar habitat across the street from Tiger Stadium, it will be a younger tiger.
If you recall, there was once a time when LSU would remove it's live mascot from its habitat on game day, and parade it around the stadium before games, but that tradition was axed many years ago.
Since then, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has lobbied with LSU to bring back the tradition of taking Mike out of its habitat and parading him around the stadium. The university has declined noting that the older Bengal Tiger is not accustomed to being in front of large crowds and the noise could startle the beautiful animal.
The website, Louisiana Sports, reports that a young tiger is being imported to Baton Rouge this weekend so that the tradition of a live tiger on the field before the game can be brought back.
According to the news article, "A tiger from an out-of-state refuge to assume the role for Saturday night’s game."
LSU has not had a live tiger on the field for pre-game since 2015. I guess we will have to wait and see if a real tiger shows up in "Death Valley" this weekend.
Here's a look at an older "Mike The Tiger" in its mobile cage before a game at LSU, many years ago.
