MONTEGUT, La. (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old Montegut man has been booked with attempted murder after almost hitting a Terrebonne Parish sheriff's deputy with his car.

According to The Courier, officers were working the Monegut Carnival Children's Club on Sunday when they spotted a car being drive erratically on Louisiana Highway 55. Deputies say the driver ignored warnings to stop, then accelerated toward a deputy who jumped out of the way and escaped harm.

Deputies say that during a chase, the driver almost hit several cars before turning into the yard of a home. The man was taken into custody after he ran to the back of the house and tried to get in the door.

Tyler Naquin is jailed pending a bond hearing.
